Practical guide
Getting Started with SCL
The journey from first contact to your first regular support.
Easy to use.
Read it on screen, print it, or ask us for Easy Read, large print or another language.
Starting with a new provider involves a few steps, but you do not have to work them out alone. We explain what we need, what happens next and whether we have capacity for the support you are looking for.
You can involve a family member, advocate, interpreter or another person you trust at any stage.
The steps
- 1Make an enquiry or send a referral and tell us the type of support you are looking for.
- 2Talk with us about your needs, goals, preferences, location and preferred support times.
- 3Share the relevant NDIS plan or funding information we need to discuss whether the proposed services can be arranged.
- 4Meet with us, ask questions and decide whether SCL feels right for you.
- 5Review the proposed services, prices and Service Agreement before you agree to anything.
- 6Plan the support with us, confirm your worker and schedule, and arrange your first shift.
How long it takes
The timeframe depends on the support you need, our capacity and any information required for safe service delivery. Supported Independent Living and more complex supports usually need more planning than straightforward in-home support.
You are involved throughout
We make decisions about your SCL supports with you. You can ask questions, request another format and involve someone you trust at any point.
Nothing is locked in
An enquiry or meeting does not commit you to starting services. Take the time you need to understand the proposed arrangement before deciding.
