SCL Support Services

Community Participation

Belonging, adventure and connection.

Community participation is about being able to get out, take part and stay connected in ways that are meaningful to you. That could be a regular café, a class, a social group, an appointment, a local event or something completely new.

The point is not to keep you busy. It is to support you to do more of what interests you, build confidence where you want to, and take part in community life on your own terms.

What this support can include

Support shaped around real life.

01

One-to-one community access

Go where you want to go with support that matches your pace, preferences and goals.

02

Social and recreational activities

Take part in activities that genuinely interest you rather than a pre-set list of things to do.

03

Groups and programs

Join group activities where that suits you, with the support you need to participate comfortably.

04

Confidence and independence

Build skills and familiarity so you can do more independently when that is one of your goals.

Your community

There is no right way to belong.

A good day out might mean coffee with someone you know, trying something new, joining a regular group, getting to an appointment or simply becoming more confident going places independently.

In everyday life

What community support can look like

It can be structured or completely ordinary. What matters is that the activity makes sense for you.

  • Cafés, markets and local events
  • Sport, recreation and hobbies
  • Appointments and errands
  • Classes, groups and community programs
  • Maintaining friendships and social connections
  • Building confidence in familiar and new places

Our approach

Support alongside you, not in front of you.

A support worker should make it easier for you to participate, communicate and make choices without taking over. We start with what you enjoy, what you want to try and what would make community life easier or more independent.

Getting started

Three steps, explained clearly.

  1. 01

Tell us what you actually enjoy

Start with your interests, routines, favourite places and anything you would like to try or get more confident with.

  2. 02

    Plan support around your goals

We work out what support is useful, when you need it and what a good outcome from the activity looks like for you.

  3. 03

Get out and adjust as you go

Your worker supports the activity rather than directing it, and the plan can change as your confidence and interests change.

Ready to talk about support?

You do not need to know exactly which service fits. Tell us what is happening and what you are looking for, and we will tell you honestly whether SCL can help.
