Using an Advocate, Nominee or Representative
Three different roles, explained plainly.

These terms are sometimes used as if they mean the same thing, but they can involve different roles and different authority.
An advocate
Someone who helps you understand your rights, communicate what you want, raise a concern or make a complaint. An independent advocate does not work for SCL, the NDIA or the NDIS Commission.
A representative
Someone you choose to help with communication, meetings, decisions or paperwork relating to your SCL supports. You decide who you want involved and what you are comfortable with them doing.
A nominee
Someone formally recognised by the NDIA to act in relation to particular NDIS matters. The authority of a nominee depends on the role recorded by the NDIA.
You decide who is involved
Tell us who you want involved in your SCL services and what information you are comfortable with us sharing. We may need to confirm a person's authority before they make a decision or receive information on your behalf.
We only share what is authorised
Naming a family member, representative or support person does not automatically give them access to all of your information. We follow your permission and any lawful authority that applies.
