What Assistance with Daily Life can fund, what it cannot, and how it supports independence rather than replacing it.

Assistance with Daily Life is an NDIS support category that can fund disability related help with everyday tasks. It sits within the Core Supports budget, and is designed to help you live as independently as possible.
Every plan is different
Having an NDIS plan does not automatically mean every daily activity can be funded. The assistance must be an NDIS support, relate to your disability, and be consistent with your plan.
What it can include
- Showering, dressing, grooming and toileting
- Assistance with eating, drinking or meal preparation
- Help getting in and out of bed or moving around the home
- Household cleaning and laundry
- Assistance to organise daily routines and essential tasks
- Support to complete shopping or household errands
- Disability related help with yard maintenance in some circumstances
- Support that lets you practise daily living skills
The level of support can range from prompting and supervision through to hands on assistance. It should reflect what you can do, what you want to learn, and what is needed for safety.
Personal care
Personal care involves private and sensitive activities. You should be asked about your preferences — worker gender, communication, privacy, routines, and how much assistance you actually want.
Workers providing personal care must deliver it safely and competently. Tasks involving complex health needs may require additional training, clinical instructions, or a worker with specific competence.
Household tasks
Household support may be appropriate where disability creates a barrier to maintaining your home. The focus is disability related assistance rather than replacing ordinary living costs.
The NDIS may fund a worker to help with cleaning or meal preparation, but it generally does not pay for groceries, rent, utilities or ordinary household products.
Building independence
Assistance with Daily Life does not always mean a worker completes the task. Support can be provided alongside you so you can practise, make decisions and become more independent — breaking a task into steps, then gradually reducing the prompts.
