What are Core Supports?
Core Supports are one of the four support budgets that may appear in an NDIS plan. They are intended to help with everyday activities, disability related needs and participation in the community.
You may not receive funding in every Core category. Your plan only includes the categories approved for your individual needs.
Core support categories
Assistance with daily life
May pay for support with everyday activities such as personal care, preparing meals, cleaning, household tasks, daily routines, and support to live more independently. The support must relate to your disability and be in line with your plan.
Consumables
May be used for approved everyday disability related items — continence products, low cost assistive technology, small items that support personal care, and equipment that assists with dressing, eating, drinking or mobility.
Not every purchase is an NDIS support
Check the current NDIS supports lists before using funding for something. Being disability related is not the same as being fundable.
Assistance with social and community participation
May pay for a support worker to help you attend community activities, participate in social groups, develop community access skills, attend events or appointments, and build confidence in the community.
The funding generally pays for the disability support you need to participate. It does not automatically pay ordinary costs such as event tickets, meals or personal purchases.
How flexible is Core funding?
Core Supports are generally flexible across the Core categories in your plan, which may let you move the total flexible Core amount around as your needs change.
You cannot move Core funding into Capacity Building, Capital or Recurring Supports, spend more than the total available, use funding for something that is not an NDIS support, or ignore conditions recorded in your plan.
Before arranging a Core support
- The support relates to your disability
- It is an approved NDIS support
- It is in line with your plan
- The correct Core category is available
- Sufficient funding is available
- Price and service arrangements have been agreed

Depending on your plan and support needs, SCL may provide:

- Community participation
- Support with daily routines
- Transport provided as part of an agreed support
We will explain our service, price, schedule and cancellation arrangements before supports begin. SCL cannot decide whether Core funding should be added to your plan, or move funding between NDIS support budgets.
